Intro & History

As we look back over the years, we celebrate many milestones including the creation of the Foundation as a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization. The vision of the Foundation is to become the bridge for business success and economic advancement and governed by a mission to create access to higher education and entrepreneurial opportunities for our youth in Southern Arizona. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded $85,000 in scholarships through its Mi Exito Scholarship Fund and provided entrepreneurship training and mentoring for 80 youth through the Latino Youth Entrepreeurship Program. The Foundation governed by its own board of directors in partnership with the board director for the Chamber. Elizabeth Gonzalez-Gann chairs the board and is supported by a talented and passionate group of directors that include Bill Valenzuela-Valenzuela Drywall, Dr. Able Salazar- Salazar Family Medical Practice, Janis Gallegos, Valerie Cavazos-Aim4College, and Raul Nido-Sunnyside High School.

Latino Youth Entrepreneurship Program

The Latino Youth Entrepreneurship Program was started in 2003. We have added several components to the original program that include interactive training and workshops, business coaching, motivational speakers, business plan competition, junior apprentice and follow-up mentoring. The program consists of three and a half-days of intensive entrepreneurship training and coaching geared to equip Latino high school students with the tools to be successful in both business and life. The program run in February of 2007 offered 39 local students unparalleled opportunities for skill building, mentorship and one-on-one exchange with top business executives and entrepreneurs. Mi Exito Scholarship Fund

Regarding the Mi Exito Scholarship Fund, last year a total of $21,000 in scholarships were awarded to twenty one (21) students from Southern Arizona. All the scholarship money raised primarily comes from the net proceeds from the Golf Tournament chaired by Steve Nuñez and Dr. Abel Salazar. We had many individual donors that made personal contributions to the Mi Exito Scholarship Fund including a $4,000 contribution from Texas Instruments to fund students interested in math, science and technology. The Scholarship Leadership Team is currently reviewing 116 student applications to select this year's award. Please sign -up for the Scholarship Luncheon on June 21, 2007 to celebrate and honor the studnets that are selected.

El Azul Grande Project

Allstate Insurance and the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce have launched a project to help the Hispanic community. El Azul Grande is a joint venture between Allstate, the Hispanic Chamber, and area merchants to purchase, design, and customize a beat up old Hummer. Once Assembled, the College Bound Hummer will make a 12 month tour of Arizona where people can buy raffle tickets for a chance to win it. The proceeds will go to benefit the Tucson Hispanic Chamber Foundation Mi Exito Scholarship Fund. Video and picture updates are always happening. The beat up old Hummer just left the 911 Collision shop with a fresh coat of paint and is ready to move on to the next vendor. Please make sure to visit the official website often to track the progress of this exciting project at www.elazulgrande.org.
