Director of Latino Marketing
For the past 26 years, Miguel has advocated for Tucson families and businesses through his involvement with local chambers, social service agencies, the arts, and as a member of countless boards and committees.Miguel is a founding and current board member for two organizations; the Breakthrough Leadership Project and Local First Arizona (LFA, an organization that advocate for locally owned businesses) as an ex-officio member. Miguel also served as a board member for the GLBT Chamber of Commerce for two years and as a general member for 4 years. During is time as Chief of Staff for the Tucson City Council Ward 3 Office (2005 - 2010), Miguel worked closely with the Gateway Business Alliance and the Campbell Avenue Business Partnership.
In 2005, Miguel was recognize as a Tucson Business Edge 40 Under 40 winner. More recently, in 2010, Miguel was recognized by the League of United Latin American Citizens with a Community Service Award.
Over the years Miguel has used his professional film, stage and radio (KXCI "Chicano Fist" & Hot 98.3 "Mas Caliente Morning Show") background to serve as the master of ceremonies for several Tucson events. Many of these events he hosts annually, such as the Fiesta Grande Street Fair, K.A.R.E. Holiday Party (Kinship and Adoption Resource and Education), the Blue Ribbon Heart Gallery Celebration (supporting foster children) and several other community events.
In addition to his passion for supporting our local economy, Miguel is also very passionate about youth. For over 20 years, Miguel has advocated for youth in the area of prevention of teenage pregnancy, gang activity and drug abuse. He worked as a Prevention Specialist for Luz Social Services in South Tucson for 5 years. In the early 1990's, Miguel worked with children with a migrant background in California via a summer program on the campus of Santa Cruz University called You Puedo (I can). He workers as a substitute teacher at SUSD & TUSD and has also presented to students for both districts on several occasions over the years. Miguel also volunteered as a wrestling coach at Tucson High School.
Miguel earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona in 1991 and, since then, has completed several graduate courses at the U of A in the area of history and political science.
